Brian S. Ravak became a permanent resident of Las Cruces, New Mexico upon retiring from the United States Air Force, after serving more than 27 years on Active Duty. Brian earned his Veterans of Foreign Wars eligibility having served a year at Camp Cooke, Taji, Iraq, 2009-2010.
Brian’s assignments included Chanute AFB, Illinois, Wurtsmith AFB, Michigan, Torrejon Air Base, Spain, and Eglin AFB, Florida, serving as a Fire Fighter in numerous capacities. He was stationed at Patrick AFB, Florida, as a Technical Application Specialist, where he attended the University of Central Florida earning a BS in Computer Engineering. Upon graduating from UCF, he attended Office Training School commissioning on April 4, 2003 as a Distinguished Graduate. After commissioning, he served at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, Maxell AFB and Maxell-Gunter Annex, Alabama, and White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico as a Developmental Engineer. Brian received his MA in Education in 2010. He is currently a Civil Servant with the Department of the Air Force serving as a Test Engineer at Holloman AFB, New Mexico. His military Decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (3 oak leaf clusters), AF Commendation Medal (5 oak leaf clusters), AF and Army Achievement Medals, Iraqi Campaign Medal with star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Air & Space Campaign Medal, AF Expeditionary Service Ribbon and numerous other decorations.
Since becoming a VFW Life-Member in 2014, Brian has served in numerous VFW officer positions at the Post and District levels and on numerous committees. He is currently the Surgeon for the Department of New Mexico. He is also the Commander of Post 6917 in Las Cruces where he earned All-State, 2018-2019. He served as District 3’s Commander, 2019-2020. Brian is also a Life-Member of the Military Order of the Cooties, a Past Seam Squirrel for MOC Pup Tent 19, and current Senior Vice Commander of the MOC Grand of New Mexico.
Brian is married to Shelly Ravak and together they have two sons, a daughter, daughter-in-law, and one grand-daughter
